We wish all of our friends and family could be here to meet and snuggle with our new little bundle of joy!  But, as you scroll through Shia's pictures, please know we think about all of you often and hope that we will see you soon.

Shia's first car ride
Shia was born on Sunday, June 15 2008 at 3:56 p.m.  He weighed 5 lbs 13 oz and was 18 1/2 inches long.  He came home with us on Tuesday, June 17.

Shia's Story:

On Monday, June 16 Celia got a call from our adoption agency.  Amber, our adoption coordinator was calling to say that a baby boy was born on Sunday who's mother was looking to place for adoption.  Amber told us if we were interested we had 20 minutes to decide and would be bringing him home the next day.  We were in shock (and estatic!)  Celia called Jeremy, who said, "Call them back and tell them YES! YES! YES!"  We both had a difficult time concentrating at work.  Celia called her sister, Sarah, who went shopping right then to help get things Shia would need to welcome him home.  After work, Celia and Jeremy went on a marathon shopping spree to make sure Shia had plenty of blankets, bottles, clothes, pacifiers, diapers, wipes and all the other baby items needed.  We went to the hospital on Tuesday at 12 p.m. and met our agency staff there.  While they went to talk to the birth mother, we got to go to the nursery to meet our new son.  By 3 p.m., we wer heading home with our little boy!

About our name choice:
We know, we know, we know!  Shia is an unusual name.  Pronounced "Shy-uh", we fell in love with it when we realized that it is a variation of the Hebrew name Yesha'ya, which means "God is Salvation."  It seemed the perfect fit for this baby, who is our gift from God!  We're both partial to names which are more unique and this one really felt right.

Xander, which is a short form of Alexander, means "Defending Men."  We loved the two names together, and also believe that the meanings merge together well.  Jeremy was always looking out for names which start with the less frequently used letters, and X is definitly on the top of the list.
